Amplified Intelligence

Amplified Intelligence (IA) uses machine intelligence to amplify human judgement, not to replace it. People set the goal and make the call. The machine brings speed, breadth and memory.

01 · Definition

What is Amplified Intelligence?

Amplified Intelligence is the use of machine intelligence as an amplifier of human judgement. Responsibility stays with people. The machine makes them faster, more thorough and less forgetful.

The idea is older than the current hype. The cyberneticist W. Ross Ashby was writing about amplifying intelligence back in 1956, and in 1962 Douglas Engelbart described the computer as a tool for augmenting the human intellect. Amplified Intelligence picks up that thread and brings it into the everyday work of businesses using ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude today.

02 · Context

Three terms.
Three stances.

What a technology is called shapes how it gets used, so the names deserve a closer look.

Artificial Intelligence

The machine is meant to think like a person. The term dates from 1956 and puts imitation at the centre.

Super Intelligence

The machine is meant to outdo people. Since September 2026 it's the official wording of the US government. In research, the term has so far described hypothetical systems.

Amplified Intelligence

The machine makes people stronger. Responsibility stays with the people who know the business and answer for the outcome.

03 · Manifesto

Five principles

Every AI project can be held up against these five, whether it's a trades business, a practice or a large corporation.

  1. 01

    Amplify, don't replace

AI takes on research, drafts and routine. Judgement stays with the person who carries the consequences.

  2. 02

    People decide

Nothing leaves the business unchecked. Whoever signs it off has read it.

  3. 03

    Data stays in-house

Customer data, know-how and processes belong to the business, not to whoever makes the tool.

  4. 04

    Stay switchable

No tool gets built in so deep that changing provider would put the business at risk.

  5. 05

    Measure the effect

The only thing that counts is what measurably improves: time, quality, enquiries, revenue.

04 · In practice

What IA looks like day to day

Three processes nearly every business has. In each one the machine prepares the work and a person signs it off.

Process 01

Enquiries

Incoming enquiries are sorted and come with a draft reply. The team checks it, adds what's missing and sends it. Hours turn into minutes, and no customer ends up talking to a machine nobody's watching.

Process 02

Quotes

Meeting notes become a draft quote in your own style and pricing logic. The numbers are still the boss's call.

Process 03

Visibility

Review replies, posts and website copy come out on a steady rhythm instead of in a panic. Only someone who knows the business signs them off.

  3. 03

Anything AI produces that goes outside the business is checked by a person first.

  4. 04

Our customer data sits in systems we control ourselves.

  5. 05

We could switch AI provider within a month if we had to.

  6. 06

At least one process has become measurably faster because of AI.

  7. 07

Our processes, templates and tone of voice are written down well enough for AI to work with.

  8. 08

We measure what AI actually brings us, such as time, enquiries or revenue.

  9. 09

Our team feels free to throw out an AI result.

  10. 10

One named person is responsible for how we use AI.

08 · Questions

Frequently asked

What does Amplified Intelligence mean?

Amplified Intelligence (IA) means using machine intelligence to amplify human judgement rather than replace it. People set the goal and make the decision. The machine brings speed, breadth and memory.

How is it different from Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence describes the technology and its aim of imitating human thinking. Amplified Intelligence describes a stance on how you use that technology. The question isn't what the machine can do alone, it's how much better a person decides with it.

Is Amplified Intelligence the same as Augmented Intelligence?

They're close relatives. Augmented puts the weight on adding something new. Amplified puts it on strengthening what's already there: the experience, judgement and character of a business.

Why not just call it Super Intelligence?

In the research world, super intelligence means systems that outperform people at everything. That has little to do with running a business. What counts there is people doing better work with AI and keeping the responsibility.

Which businesses is this for?

Any business with recurring knowledge work, such as enquiries, quotes, copy, reports or appointment chains. That covers trades and practices as much as law firms, retail and the wider SME sector.

Do I need new software?

Usually not. ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude will do the job once the processes are cut cleanly. Where something is automated, it runs on systems you control.

What happens to our data?

Your customer data and company knowledge stay in your hands. Before anything is set up, we agree which data an AI tool may see and which it may not. That's the third principle of the manifesto.

Where do I start?

The simplest way in is the self-check on this page, followed by a test flight. In 90 minutes we work through a real use case from your day-to-day, for €290.
